Over the weekend, I filled one of my reusable "In the Mesh" bags with some incredibly sweet Ontario McIntosh apples.

I often get asked how many apples one of our large reusable produce bags will hold, well scroll down and find out the answer!
I made applesauce for the first time ever last fall and tried in vain to find that recipe today with no luck, so I made up my own. Give it a try and enjoy the incredible smells of fall in your kitchen!
Here's what you need for this "Rose-coloured Applesauce":
~5 lbs apples (I used about 18 medium sized apples), cored and cut into chunks
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
Here's what to do:
Wash your apples up.... All of these fit into our "In the Mesh" large reusable produce bag!Next, core and chop; I used this handy dandy apple corer/slicer...very quick and easy! If you want, you can peel the apples beforehand and save a step later, but I chose to keep the skins on as it gives the sauce a beautiful rose colour.

Toss the apples with the sugar and cinnamon and load into your crockpot.

Pour the liquid ingredients over top, place the lid on and cook on high for 3 hours (low for 6).

Once the apples are cooked, mash them up with a potato masher to get the consistency you like then push the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove the skins. Voila! Incredible, fresh applesauce. At this point you can let the mixture cool and freeze in reusable containers or just eat it all up right away.
So, grab yourself some reusable In the Mesh bags for all of those lovely in-season apples and give this recipe a try. Enjoy!!
